The mangosteen is a small purplish fruit that is grown in Southeast Asia. It is often referred to as The Queen of Fruits. Aptly named for its many health benefits no doubt as well as for Queen Victoria, who actually offered a knighthood to anyone who could bring her fresh mangosteens. They grow on trees that reach 20 to 80 feet tall. These trees were believed to have originated in the islands of Sunda and Cholucca in the East Indies. It takes up to nine years for the tree to mature, before bearing any fruit for harvest.
The mangosteen is rich in powerful antioxidants that are very unique. Xanthones is the unique plant compound, with strong antioxidant properties that give the mangosteen all of its amazing benefits. The mangosteen has a greater concentration of xanthones than any other botanical known to man. Xanthones have anti-inflammatory and disease fighting properties. They fight infectious agents, cholesterol damage and cancer cells. Disease have two major causes; inflammation and free radical damage. Inflammation alone has been linked to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, allergies, heart disease and Crohn’s disease. The anti-inflammatory and free radical antioxidant properties therefore, have the ability to make a profound difference in the development and spread of diseased and cancerous cells.
The mangosteen has many vitamins and minerals important for maintaining bodily functions such as DNA production, muscle contraction, wound healing, immunity and nerve signaling. Vitamin C, folate and xanthones all help to increase its antioxidant capacity. Its anti-inflammatory effects may help promote fat metabolism and prevent weight gain. The mangosteen protects the skin from the effects of the ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation in the skin, thus helping to prevent skin damage from sun exposure (which is a major contributor to skin cancer and the signs of aging). With brain health, it helps to prevent mental decline and decrease brain inflammation and improve depression. It helps with allergies by inhibiting the release of histamines and prostaglandins. Lastly it has a unique vitamin and mineral profile with Vitamin A, B6, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, folate, potassium and zinc. Minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, carotene and cryptoxanthin.
The mangosteen has notes of ripe strawberries, fragrant peaches and creamy vanilla ice cream. We combined these sweet and savory flavors, we our naturally sweet aged white balsamic vinegar. There are many mangosteen juices, high in added sugar that negate the many health benefits. We on the other hand, combine the immense health benefits of balsamic vinegar, with the immense health benefits of the mangosteen and the end result is a deliciously thick and healthy glaze. Whole food is the most effective form of nutrition and arguably the ONLY effective form of nutrition, as supplements have now been proven to be little more than a placebo. Drizzle our one and only Organic Mangosteen White Balsamic Vinegar over salads, fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood.
